See you later, Chapada Diamantina

Texto: Melhor longa-metragem V FASAI Cine Video. Troféu Cidade de Iraquara - Melhor longa-metragem

It is with great joy that we announce that, last Sunday, we received the City of Iraquara Trophy for Best Feature Film for “Mãos à Terra” at the 5th edition of the Iraquara American Socio-Environmental Film and Video Festival (FASAI), which brought its programme to an emotional close in the Chapada Diamantina region of Bahia.

These were intense days filled with cinema, nature and powerful encounters, at which we were joined by Sérgio Guidoux and Dani Eizirik representing the team. Upon receiving the award, Sérgio thanked the city and the festival, whilst Dani emphasised: “This film was made with a great deal of determination, passion, persistence and tenacity. And we want to distribute it in the same spirit, so that it can reach wider and wider audiences, even beyond the major cities and into rural areas. This support from the 5th FASAI is a huge boost in helping this film reach as far as it can on the journey that is only just beginning.”

The following Tuesday, it was the turn of the rural community of Queimada I, in the countryside around Iraquara, to welcome us, with a visit to the traditional flour mill, followed by a screening of the film for the community and a discussion at the headquarters of the Association for the Development of Queimada and Surrounding Areas (ADEQUA). We are extremely grateful to Isabela Pereira and ADEQUA for organising the event, and to the whole community for their warm welcome.

We are continuing our efforts to spread this seed of resistance. At the end of this week, we’re heading to São Paulo, where three screenings will take place.
